1.1 Why Another Protocol?

The communication industry is riddled with protocols, so why create another one instead of using an existing protocol? None of the existing protocols can deliver the amazing data and GPS tracking performance of DART:

  • Optimized for Data. DART was invented for data communications. Most networks are optimized for two-way voice. DART delivers data faster and more securely.
  • Simplified Node Addressing. IP based networks pose challenges to implementing simple wireless device nodes. Cellular’ s ever-changing IP address scheme is remedied in DART by assigning all of the nodes with unique IDs, and allowing users to re-map these to their own ID codes as desired.
  • Serial to IP. Fundamental to DART is the ability to access any wireless device using a static IP address, RS232 serial data, or Raveon’s WMX protocol. Older legacy devices running SCADA protocols and other serial protocols will work on a DART network with little to no modifications.
  • GPS Tracking. AVL and personal tracking place very different requirements on a radio system. DART is especially optimized for tracking and data.
  • Autonomy. Other protocols require users to be in constant two-way communications with the base station, draining batteries and limiting range.
  • Wide Area. Most narrow-band wireless systems limit the number of base stations.
  • Dynamic Bandwidth. Different classes of devices need different amounts of bandwidth.
  • Dynamic Security. Data security requires RF bandwidth. Different classes of devices can utilize the appropriate amount of security.
  • Low Latency. Some devices require low latency, others do not. A dynamic system optimizes itself to meet the current needs of the devices.
  • Scalability. DART supports billions of IDs and thousands of base stations. DART Networks can accommodate tracking a small town police force or a nationwide fleet of vehicles.
  • Dynamic Air Rate. DART allows certain classes of devices to use slower data rates for increased RF system coverage.
