Case Studies

Case Study: Port of Long Beach

About: The Port of Long Beach is one of America’s premier seaports and a trailblazer in goods movement and environmental stewardship. Trade valued annually at more than $180 billion moves through Long Beach, making it the second-busiest seaport in the United States.

The Challenge: POLB needed a mission critical solution to track personnel, boats and cars within key operations teams.

The Solution: POLB implemented Raveon’s Ravtrack GPS tracking transponders for marine and land operations along with the software necessary to visualize their assets in real time.

Case Study: FAA Airport Tracking

About FAA: The FAA ensures the national airport system is safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible and meets the needs of the traveling public.

The Challenge: Antiquated wireless communication systems used in a vast number of airport flight side operations nationwide had become difficult to support.  An upgrade was needed to the LLWAS (Low Wind Shear Alert System) system used for take-offs and landings.

Solution: Raveon engineered a compliant and reliable data radio modem to meet the stringent NTIA requirements commonly associated in key airport safety systems.  The new Raveon solution rolled out successfully to hundreds of airports across the US and the FAA continues to look to Raveon as a key provider of secure and reliable data communication solutions.

Case Study: Bus Tracking

About: Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) is a public school district located in Jefferson County, Kentucky operating 150 schools with more than 101,000 students, making it the 27th largest school district in the United States

Challenge: JCPS’s Bluegrass School District needed a way to track their bus operations to confirm that they were on schedule and making designated stops on time. The District had received complaints that some buses had taken incorrect routes and/or were late for pick times, but without verification and tracking, the Bluegrass School District had no way to verify.

Solution: JCPS deployed Raveon’s RavTrack asset tracking solution, which allowed the District to track the buses’ stop arm sign and red and amber lights, as well as the time and location of each bus throughout the entire school district in real time.

Case Study: SCADA

Case Study: Apple Valley Heights Water District

About: Apply Valley Heights Water District provides water distribution to thousands of local residents throughout California. The district manages wells, tanks, pumps and stations to facilitate the delivery of water across multiple channels and distribution points.

Challenge: Managing multiple water pumps in a mostly undeveloped wide area can be a daunting task, especially when you only know there’s a problem when something goes terribly wrong. The district depended greatly on the proper operation of installed Mercury switches to turn/off pumps with no automated alert system.

Solution: SCADA facility management solutions for water operations and data management provided the much-needed system control and automation the district required. Raveon’s data radio modems are now used to remotely turn on/off pumps and provide vital equipment data whenever an event occurs. Pump problems are no longer a traumatic event as real-time immediate notification alerts allow management to quickly assess and access resources to troubleshoot and potentially solve issues from one.

Case Study: Criterion Automation

About: Criterion Automation specializes in industrial process solutions, from simple process control applications to complex plant automation projects.

Challenge: A municipal water department required an upgraded wireless SCADA solution urgently, but had difficulty sourcing a data radio modem that was reliable and allowed for seamless integration with minimal downtime.

Solution: “After searching for and testing several UHF radios to upgrade a municipal water department’s wireless SCADA system, RAVEON’s Fireline modem was chosen as the best performance/value solution. The simple and versatile ability of the Fireline to be quickly configured easily beat out the other radios on the market.” - Chris Carda, President of Criterion Industrial
